Laughing about
C64 demos?
Well, this is probably a very
strange title. Do I laugh about C64
demos? Do I talk bullshit about them?
No way! Then what do I mean?
On different parties I visited
before (Hurricane, The Party'92) there
were both Amiga and C64 competitions.
Sometimes PC, too, but this is not so
important now. So to get to the
point, watching the 64 demo, gfx and
music compos in many cases I heard far
away voices talking negatively about
the good old machine. Stuff like :
Nowadays this machine is very lame,
lame 8 bit, is this music, ridiculous
gfx, the 64 should have already died
now, I can't stand this crap and so on
and on unlimited variations! Why? I
mean did you guys who are responsible
for this talk forget your past?
Didn't you have a 64? Why hating a
computer? I can't understand it. I
think that all of the machines are
very nice, even the so well hated
Atari ST and other very unpopular
computers. If I watch a production
on a machine then I consider and judge
it to the machines limits and
features! So this way I can enjoy a
64, Atari ST, or even a Spectrum demo
(well I don't want to point out that I
am totally crazy about Spectrum demos,
it was just an example). So I think
hating an other computer just because
we have bought a different one is lame
and extremely childish!
@IPamigaC
And we must remember that we can
thank our scene to the former 64 one,
because the Amiga scene was growing
out of the little brother! Maybe
those ones, who never had a 64 don't
agree with me! I can understand why!
They don't know shit about the basic
development of the scene. They
haven't seen the first cracks in
history, the first intros and demos on
this globe. Perhaps it sounds a bit
irritating and arrogant, but they are
all newcomers! It's not their fault!
Maybe they were too young at that time
or weren't interested in computers, so
no mind! But everything is relative!
For example Slayer of Scoopex never
had a 64 as far as I know. Is he a
newcomer??! Sure in some point of
view e.g. for a guy who have been on
the scene for more than years (no
offense pal!). The only problem with
that is, when a newcomer who bought
his Amiga about one and a half years
ago, and thinks it's a so long time
start talking bullshit about 64 and 64
productions! Then I just get mad!
Well, I don't want you to get that I
am a fanatic 64 fan, going around on
parties and killing people saying
opposite opinion than me! Not at all,
I just want people to tolerate other
systems than their own! Isn't it just
a good idea?
And now some statistics (very
little, I promise). There are two
types of these lamers; In the first
group there are those ones, who never
owned a 64 and in the other well guess
what? Ofcourse the ex-64 users! I
guess the second one is even much
worse, because they are talking
against their own roots! But both of
them are childish and so fucking proud
of having the wondermachine (no doubt
the Amiga is or better was a kind of
wonder).
I have been on the 64 for about 3
years before I started my Amiga
career, and I can tell that it was a
wonderful machine and still is in my
eyes! I still have one and sometimes
turn it on and watch some new or
ancient demos listen to the legendary
64 music! It's really great! Then
those lamers come and laugh about the
hard work of the still active dudes!
I can say that I admire those guys,
who are working on the little
Commodore and didn't leave it! They
make possible almost everything we
thought only an Amiga can do! Just
look at the vectorbobs, fractals,
lightsourced, shaded and glenzvectors,
plasmas, cycles, fractals,
kefrens-bars, vertical rasters and so
on! The guys in Oxyron, Crest,
Starion, Brutal etc are still working
and discovering new possibilities each
day! They must be fanatic, but it's
good like this. It's always great to
see what can they adapt from Amiga
demos! Well, what do you think?
